Our Mission

Our mission is to manufacture cooling systems at -100°C and colder which leave a light environmental footprint. We believe that the refrigeration sector needs a whole new generation of machines to cut carbon emissions without incurring massive expense. Our products are built on three principles: engineering excellence, low lifecycle costs and light footprint.

Engineering Excellence

First and foremost, we are building an industry-leading team of technologists, who can engage at both a practical and design level, aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and are always up for learning a new skill.By prioritising reliability and testing excellence above all, we will ensure that our systems are market leading in their ease of use and the value they provide, building on our years of experience in cryogenic system design.

Low Lifecycle Cost

We are building low temperature, high power systems, with a laser focus on minimising lifecycle costs. These will deliver fresh opportunities in cryotherapy, hydrogen liquefaction and nuclear fusion, not to mention new areas of technology which are simply not viable with the current generation of technology, and we will gauge our success as a company on the breakthroughs we make possible.

Light Footprint

Refrigeration has played a vital role in the story of mankind, enabling food distribution, new pharmaceutical developments, and countless advances in physical sciences. Even with the transition from CFCs to HCFCs and then HFCs there has been a heavy cost on our world, with an estimated 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions coming from refrigeration in 2014. And demand continues to rise. Our next gen systems will have the lightest possible environmental impact, while still accessing lower temperatures at high powers. Our first system will use air cycle refrigeration, to show that it is possible to build powerful systems while putting the planet first.

Our Story

Mayak Engines began in 2022 when our two cofounders (who share a nerdy enthusiasm for cool inventions and retro design technique) realized the potential of light footprint machines and agreed to work together. Helped by a small army of partners and supporters, they’re currently working on a concept demonstrator to bring this to reality.
